PELIE, the Partnership for Effective Learning and Innovative Education, a group of funders committed to transforming the landscape of complementary Jewish education, is excited to announce that they are working in partnership with Taglit-Birthright Israel and Shorashim to launch a free 10-day trip to Israel this summer designed specifically for Jewish educators who work in complementary settings. The trip will include all of the traditional highlights of a Taglit-Birthright Israel trip, so that the teachers develop a personal attachment to and understanding of Israel while they have a great time! The trip will also include a professional development component so that teachers are able to take what they are feeling and learning and bring it back to their classrooms.

Participants are eligible for the trip if they:
  • Are between the ages of 18-29. (An exception has been made to the typical age limit of 26 to allow educators from 26-29 to participate)
  • Have never been to Israel before on a peer trip.
  • Are Jewish.
  • Are working in a part-time, congregational or non-congregational, Jewish engagement setting.
Registration for the trip opens on February 14 at noon for applicants who have been waitlisted for a Birthright trip before, and registration begins February 15 at 10 am for first-time applicants. All applicants can register here.
The trip is tentatively scheduled for mid-June.
