"Eyes on Israel", CAMERA’s middle school and high school curriculum offers an exciting approach to learning about Israel, the Middle East and journalism, by focusing on media coverage of current events and relevant history. CAMERA is pleased to announce the second edition of "Eyes on Israel", which will be available in August 2012.

"Eyes on Israel" is a dynamic, modular curriculum that helps teachers and students tackle difficult subjects and understand how they are addressed and at times misrepresented by reporters, editors and commentators. The 2012 version will be available at Eyes on Israel Online as well as on DVD. Eyes on Israel Online offers updates, revisions, and new curricular material, based on user suggestions and CAMERA's own assessments. New media examples offer a sense of immediacy to keep students engaged and absorbed.

CAMERA, the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America, is a 65,000-member, Boston-based international research, educational, and activist organization. For thirty years, it has been at the forefront of examining and alerting others to the role of the news media in shaping perceptions of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Recognizing the importance of the media, CAMERA developed "Eyes on Israel" in 2007 to help young people develop critical thinking skills as news consumers. The 2012 revision comes at a time when media coverage continues to have a profound influence on public awareness of key facts and issues and when, all too often, the coverage falls short of the high standards of the profession.

The comprehensive curriculum—containing lesson plans, student handouts, teacher’s aids and multi-media materials—teaches the facts about Israel’s history and current events, fosters an awareness of media ethics and encourages critical thinking about coverage of Israel and the Middle East. Its multimedia approach provides an exciting educational experience and appeals to all types of learners.
