Holocaust and Human Behavior Online Course for Educators in a Jewish Setting

How is history shaped by hatred, indifference, and denial, as well as by caring, compassion, and responsibility? Grounded in the study of Jewish ethics and values, Facing History and Ourselves' online course, Holocaust and Human Behavior Online Course for Educators in a Jewish Setting, examines the range of choices that led to the failure of democracy in Germany and ultimately to the persecution of millions of Jews and other targeted groups. Participants will investigate the connection between Jewish history and identity, the moral questions inherent in everyday life, and how we as individuals and members of groups can make a difference in the world today.
This online course takes place over eight weeks. Each week, participants will engage in a variety of activities that will include reading materials, viewing video clips, creating journal entries, and participating in online facilitated discussion forums. Participants will be expected to participate for a minimum of 4 hours per week for the eight weeks of the course. The online course format is asynchronous so that participants may complete assignments for any given week according to their own schedule.

- Learn multidisciplinary pedagogical approaches for teaching a course on the Holocaust that is grounded in the study of Jewish ethics and values
This course is recommended for 6th-12th grade world history or English language arts teachers, Tanakh and Talmud teachers and all Humanities teachers in Jewish Educational settings.
Pricing
Fee: $50 per person registration fee includes all materials. A generous grant from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany covers the $300 course fee. Please also note that the fee does not cover the full cost of the course and follow up. The additional costs for providing these services have been underwritten by individual, foundation, and corporate donors.
Graduate Credit
As an option for our course participants--and at an additional cost--we offer three graduate credits in sociology for successful completion of this course. Credits can be obtained through the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, at an additional cost of $486. If you are interested, please indicate so on your application. Please note that participants taking the course for graduate credits will have additional requirements, including a final project.
