The Lookstein Center and The UJA-Federation of New York  have launched a new initiative to train promising teachers and administrators in New York area schools to take on larger leadership roles in Jewish day schools.

The Educational Leadership Advancement Initiative (ELAI) program is designed for Jewish education professionals – teachers, department chairs, assistant principals and guidance personnel – who aspire to increasing their impact on their schools and are looking for a career ladder. The skills acquired will prepare participants for positions of greater impact in their schools.

The program which is scheduled to take place from Summer, 2008 to Summer, 2009 will include:

  • Local retreats
  • Monthly workshops
  • Visits to other schools
  • A week-long retreat in Israel
  • Mentoring for a school-based project

The cost of the program (except 25% of airfare to Israel) is fully covered by a generous grant from the UJA-Federation of New York. The program is open to education professionals in New York City, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk Counties who currently work in Jewish day schools.
