'Eyes on Israel' – a Media Curriculum
Source: CAMERA
CAMERA (The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America) announces a new, free media curriculum,"Eyes on Israel," for students in grades 7-12. The curriculum was created to help students develop a critical approach towards what they see, read and hear about Israel and the Middle East in the media.
One of the chief goals of the curriculum is to allow learners to explore media texts (articles, radio and television broadcasts and websites) and historical facts in such a way as to encourage insight about the nature of the Middle East conflict and the way in which it is rendered by the media.
"Eyes on Israel”, consists of four modules of lesson plans which can be used sequentially or independently. It is in use in scores of congregational schools, day schools and yeshivot in the US and abroad. Each curriculum CD comes with a Brief Users Guide and is compatible for MAC or PC.
Founded in 1982, the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America is a media-monitoring, research and membership organization devoted to promoting accurate and balanced coverage of Israel and the Middle East. CAMERA fosters rigorous reporting, while educating news consumers about Middle East issues and the role of the media. Because public opinion ultimately shapes public policy, distorted news coverage that misleads the public can be detrimental to sound policymaking. A non-partisan organization, CAMERA takes no position with regard to American or Israeli political issues or with regard to ultimate solutions to the Arab-Israeli conflict.
