Begin your first step on the journey to become a Mussar group facilitator.

Mussar is a Jewish path of character development and spiritual growth, providing a practical set of teachings and practices that lead to greater awareness, wisdom and ultimately, transformation. Based on Jewish teachings, both ancient and contemporary, the goal of Mussar study and practice is to become a mensch, a good and decent person. In order to prepare to lead others, you first need to experience the transformative impact of Mussar yourself.

Yesod provides people who already have general facilitation skills with basic knowledge and practice to lead a Mussar group (va’ad). In this introductory, five-session facilitated virtual training program you will learn essential Mussar practices in order to explore character traits, or middot, and practice Mussar facilitation while developing skills through feedback from your experienced Yesod trainer and peers.

The Yesod program offers you a unique opportunity to interact on a deep level with other trainees in a small and intimate va’ad, fostering your own growth in a process of learning, practice, and reflection.

In Yesod you will study and practice two foundational middot that will illustrate Mussar insight and methods: humility/anavah and enthusiasm/zerizut. Mussar requires study but the true effect comes from practice. The more you understand of Mussar practice, the more you do the practice, the more you will see the impact.

This summer, learn a new skill that will open your eyes to a Jewish practice that brings a sense of holiness into your world. Begin your first step on the journey to become a Mussar group facilitator. In order to prepare to lead others, you first need to experience the transformative impact of Mussar yourself. Yesod: Foundations in Mussar Group Leadership is a 5 session program, developed by The Mussar Institute, that takes place online in real time through video conferencing.
