Kansas City Day of Discovery Offers a Taste of Jewish Learning
The Kansas City Jewish Chronicle
The third annual “Day of Discovery — Explore the Joy of Jewish Learning” was held at the Kansas City Jewish Community Campus on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009. Jews from all over the area came for a day of learning and spiritual engagement, getting to know about all types of Jewish learning classes that are available locally.
Eight to ten simultaneous classes over three sessions were offered by teachers from all denominations of the Jewish community. The day started with a choice of two prayer sessions – traditional or egalitarian in order to set the spiritual tone of the day and offer the participants a chance to experience Jewish worship.
This year a “Jewish Family Learning Together” track was held for parents of children from age 3 to grade three. In these classes parents and children studied together and took home materials to continue family Jewish experience.
Jewish people from all Kansas City congregations, denominations, backgrounds and perspectives came together for the day of communal learning and engagement with Judaism.
