The Lookstein Center for Jewish Education is pleased to announce the launch of the Jewish Counselors of Practice (JCoP), a professional online community of practice developed by and for mental health professionals in Jewish day schools. Together the community creates and shares resources and best practices, discusses trends and needs, develops collaborative research and works together to maximize the positive impact on the well-being of their students.

The JCoP was developed as part of the Jim Joseph Foundation fellowship in educational technology, which is facilitated by The Lookstein Center at Bar-Ilan University. The JCoP is sponsored by The Lookstein Center for Jewish Education, Bar-Ilan University, the Jim Joseph Foundation and the Institute for University-School Partnership at the Azrieli Graduate School of Yeshiva University.

From the JCoP website:

The Jewish Counselors of Practice (JCoP) is a professional, online community developed by and for mental health professional in Jewish day schools. Together we create and share resources and best practices, discuss trends and needs, develop collaborative research and work together to maximize our positive impact on the well being of our students. Together we are so much greater than the sum of our parts.

Together we provide peer support, professional development, problem-solving assistance and promotion of mental health awareness among Jewish day school counselors through research and advocacy. We create collaborative research projects with interested JCoP members in order to advocate and add valuable information to our field. However, regardless of your level of interaction, the JCoP is a significant resource for any Jewish day school guidance counselor.

As a member, you can communicate with your colleagues in a secure, professional online environment. You can create, share, and search a database of journal articles, member posts, videos, discussions and research papers created by other Jewish day school therapists and other experts in the field. You can also engage in collaborative research projects organized and implemented by members of the JCoP.

The JCoP is currently being facilitated by Dr. Eliezer Jones who holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. He has worked clinically with children and adolescents for over ten years, was recently on the guidance team at Robert M. Beren Academy in Houston, TX and is also an expert in educational technology. He is currently the Educational Technology Specialist at the Institute for University-School Partnership at the Azrieli Graduate School of Yeshiva University and is a fellow in the Jim Joseph Foundation fellowship in educational technology, which is facilitated by the Lookstein Center for Jewish Education and Bar-Ilan University.
