Every 28 years, the Jewish community around the world celebrates the return of the sun to its original place in the heavens at the precise time and day of its creation. This celebration is called Birkat Hahammah - blessing of the Sun. The next date on which we mark this moment is April 8, 2009, the day before Passover. This site, developed by a coalition of Jewish environmental organizations, is dedicated to help mark this amazing day.
The Bless the Sun website contains an overview of the ancient Jewish celebration and its talmudic, halachik and astronomical sources.
Included are a listing of events in Israel and the USA that will mark this rare occasion as well as the Birkat HaHamma Art Competition and solar energy advocacy resources.
The site also has a rich collection of links to Birkat HaHamma study resources, educational and experiential activities and other organizational websites.
