The Second-Annual NCSY Convention on Informal Jewish Education - YouthCon - returns on August 19, 2012 to the Stamford Hilton in Connecticut. A year ago, YouthCon drew an audience of 600 professionals and volunteers representing 150 organizations.

YouthCon was created by the Orthodox Union to enable informal and experiential Jewish educators to network, inspire and learn from one another's leadership roles. YouthCon is open to educators of all backgrounds. YouthCon 2012 will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Stamford Hilton, Stamford, CT. Last summer, more than 500 professionals and volunteers, representing more than 160 organizations that represent over 75,000 Jewish youth across the Jewish spectrum attended YouthCon 2011.

The Orthodox Union recently announced recipients of “Day School Affordability” challenge grants for seven projects nationwide, with the objective of developing “innovative and replicable solutions to address day school affordability.” The grants, part of a $150,000 OU initiative to confront the affordability issue, were announced on the concluding day of a two-day “Summit on the Affordability of Jewish Education” arranged by the OU to stimulate discussion and planning on dealing with this critical issue in Orthodox life.

The Orthodox Union’s Challenge Grant has been designed to encourage innovative approaches to address Day School affordability through increasing revenue from non-traditional sources, reducing costs, or creating affordable models for day school education. Each grant is for up to three years to allow for successful implementation. Grants will be awarded ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 during the grant period. The OU is encouraging communities or groups to obtain matching funds from local Federations, local foundations, and local philanthropists.

The Department of Day School & Educational Services of the Orthodox Union invites Yeshiva Day school principals and board members to a conference on improving education and cutting costs by adopting online education. The conference is scheduled for April 25 – 26, 2010 in Herndon, Virginia outside of Washington, DC.
