Novice teachers need a lot of support. This is especially true for Jewish Studies teachers. The Jewish Studies In-Service Teacher Training Program, a 14-month online program created and run by the Pardes Center for Jewish Educators, offers novice Jewish studies teachers 1-on-1 mentoring coupled with regular webinars that provide essential and practical pedagogical training, tailored for the teaching of Jewish texts. While already teaching in the classroom, these educators will get the skills and the extra support that they need!

While many fine institutions exist to teach Torah to the next generation of Jewish leaders, rarely are these scholars taught how to teach the Torah that they have learned. Despite the lack of teacher training, Jewish professionals are simply expected to be able to teach Torah well. Pardes institute believes that a significant increase in the number of highly-trained Torah teachers has the capacity to radically change the Jewish community’s relationship to its spiritual and intellectual heritage. Through this teacher training bootcamp (June 21-July 2, 2020), Pardes aims to significantly improve the quality of adult Jewish education in the North American Jewish community.

The Pardes Day School Educators Program – training outstanding Jewish studies teachers for day schools since 2000 – is a vibrant and innovative two-year program in Jerusalem that combines intensive text study at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies with a Master of Jewish Education from Hebrew College. This program is highly selective, seeking outstanding applicants for whom day school teaching is their calling.

To increase the likelihood of school-wide change and ultimately reach a greater number of teachers, PCJE will hold a Tefilah Education Conference for Day School Administrators at the Pearlstone Retreat Center in Reisterstown, MD from June 24-28, 2019. PCJE will host a maximum of 15 school administrators and/or key tefilah leaders best able and empowered to lead the tefilah education change process in their schools.
