The Reform Movement announced this week the founding of the first Jewish specialty camp for science and technology. The new Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) camp, called the URJ 6 Points Science Academy, will open in the summer of 2014 in Boston, MA, and serve upwards of 600 campers in grades 6-10 over three two-week sessions per summer.

Cnaan Lipshiz writes about Poland’s first Torah Trek, an adult summer camp that marries Jewish learning with hiking. The 14 Torah Trekkers stayed for five days at the remote southern Polish Kalatowki lodge, a mountain resort so isolated that it can be reached only by four-wheel drive. They held daily shofar sessions on the trail - a tradition in Elul, the Hebrew month that precedes Rosh Hashanah.

Gavin Beinart-Smollan tells how his two week stint as a counselor for the Szarvas Fellowships at Camp Szarvas in Hungary changed his perceptions of modern Judaism in Eastern Europe. His encounter with Jewish kids and youth leaders from across Eastern Europe involved in creating and living their Jewish identities changed the picture of Jewish existence in modern Eastern Europe presented to him in his previous organized trips to Poland.

Established twenty years ago to reconnect young Jews from post-Communist Central and Eastern Europe to Jewish life, today Camp Szarvas provides a venue for hundreds of campers from over 25 countries to explore their Jewish identity, connect with Israel, and build an unparalleled Jewish community that transcends geographical borders and religious denominations. For a week each summer, the integration program for people with disabilities brings youngsters with special needs as well as elderly residents of the Újpest Israel Sela Nursing Home to the camp.

For the 26th consecutive year, The Bronfman Youth Fellowships in Israel has selected a group of 26 high school students to be Bronfman Fellows. The Bronfman Fellows participate in an intensive five-week program of study, travel and extensive programming in Israel designed to develop future community leaders committed to Jewish unity.
