This study investigated little-c creativity in first-year preservice teacher candidates, as manifested in their yearlong fieldwork. It was designed as a qualitative empirical study. Three major themes related to the candidates’ creativity and the components that fostered it were revealed. The first was the process the candidates underwent to construct and implement their initiatives; the second was related to the process that the candidates underwent as they transitioned from feelings of chaos to creativity; and the third was the candidates’ interpersonal relationships. We conclude that preservice teacher education should provide unique experiences that foster creativity.

“Whatsapp, Teacher?” - Student Perspectives on Teacher-Student Whatsapp Interactions in Secondary Schools
The present study adds to the expanding body of empirical research on social media use in educational settings by specifically focusing on a heretofore underexposed aspect, namely, secondary school student-teacher communication in the popular instant messaging application WhatsApp. We report on findings from the student perspective and discuss the advantages and limitations of this form of communication sphere, and on the social functions of the different classroom WhatsApp groups in secondary school students’ everyday life.

‘These Are Not the Realities I Imagined’: An Inquiry into the Lost Hopes and Aspirations of Beginning Teachers
The Program for Excellence in Teaching (PET) conducted in Israel aspires towards training excellent teachers but also towards creating agents of change within the educational system. This qualitative study, focusing on 21 students and beginning teachers who participated in the PET at a certain college of education in Israel, examines their professional expectations and the disparity between intentions and implementations that happens as the beginning teachers encounter the reality in schools. The article suggests three factors that address this disparity: the participants’ positive conception of the educational system, the isolation of the beginning teachers, and the induction process they must undergo. This article proposes various innovative recommendations for coping with this situation.

How Solid is Jewish Student-Teachers’ Solidarity? Israeli Student-Teachers’ Perceptions of their Jewish Identity and Sense of Belonging to the Jewish People
This article examines the characteristic features of Jewish-identity perception amongst young Jewish Israelis within the broader paradigm known as “Jewish peoplehood”. It was written in the context of the public agenda concerning peoplehood that found voice in the Israeli Parliament’s Education Committee debate on 25 November, 2006 that determined this issue to constitute “one of the most important and weighty issues in sustaining the Jewish identity of the Jewish nation-state − and also the most neglected issue in the Israeli education system”. The article deals with practical lifestyle representations of this approach, as well as the question of how encounters between Israeli student-teachers and their peers in the diaspora influence the Jewish identity of young Israelis
