The MOFET JTEC Online Academy for Jewish Studies Opens Registration for the Upcoming Fall, 2012 Semester
The MOFET Institute's Online Academy for Jewish Studies has opened registration for the Fall, 2012 semester of online courses. The courses, in areas that are suitable for educators and leaders in the Jewish world as well as students in universities and colleges in the fields of the didactics and pedagogy of teaching Jewish subjects in the Diaspora, are taught via the internet, a-synchronously with synchronous components. The course developers and lecturers are all experts in their fields and senior staff members of Israel's top institutes of higher education.
Providing Optimal Jewish Experiences: The Case of Camp Ramah in Wisconsin
How do Jewish residential summer camps provide campers and staff with opportunities to learn and grow as Jews? This article asks: Can there be more to the camp experience than being socialized into the norms and values of a well-aligned Jewish environment? Based on a case study of the drama program in Camp Ramah in Wisconsin, the author proposes viewing certain camp experiences through the lens of optimal Jewish experiences.
The Top 5 Community Initiatives to Sustain Day Schools
Harry Bloom, manager of the YU School Partnership’s division of Planning and Performance Improvement, shares some of the work he is doing to help Jewish day schools develop active strategies to increase their sustainability in the communities of Bergen County, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Chicago and Cleveland. He relates here particularly how he is trying to figure out how to leverage community power in these five communities to increase revenue and efficiencies. This work is generously supported by The AVI CHAI Foundation and local Federations and Foundations in the communities.
ORT Digital Technology in Jewish Education Seminar in South Africa
The latest Naomi Prawer Kadar International Seminar for Digital Technology in Jewish Education brought 30 South African teachers up to date with skills and resources which they can use to make Jewish Studies relevant and engaging for their students.
Russian American Jews: A Bright Spot for Jewish Peoplehood
The recent UJA-Federation of NY communal study provided some very surprising findings about the Russian Jews living in the eight county New York area. They experienced an unprecedented decrease in intermarriage, from 17% in 2002 to 13% in 2011, an almost 25% drop. Mordechai Tokarsky offers an explanation of this phenomenon, a unique experience called the RAJE Fellowship program.
