Shluvim – MOFET Institute's New Social Network for Israeli Educators
Recently, a new Hebrew language social network for Israeli educators, Shluvim, was launched by the MOFET Institute. The network aims to create a virtual meeting place for education professionals, teachers, lecturers, pedagogic mentors, researchers and others. Shluvim will strive to efficiently meet the needs for ongoing knowledge sharing, creation of communal knowledge, professional development and affective development and support between Israeli education professionals. Shluvim aims to provide a platform for teachers and teacher educators to keep professionally informed and in contact with colleagues and developments in the field and thus fostering personal empowerment.
An Exploration of Moshe Greenberg's Religious Vision and its Manifestation in His Bible Scholarship and Writings on Bible
This article is an attempt to explore the religious vision of Moshe Greenberg in some detail, and in particular, to analyze how his approach to education is applied to and reflected in his ideas about the teaching and learning of Bible, and in his own Bible scholarship itself. The paper examines the connection between Greenberg's philosophy of religion and Wilfred Cantwell Smith's conception of religion as a collection of religious “symbols,” one of which is the sacred text itself. The article includes an analysis of Greenberg's Bible scholarship and writings on Bible education.
Conflicts between Classical Jewish Texts and Contemporary Western Ethics
In this article, the author uses traditional and contemporary sources to tackle ethically questionable behavior by Biblical figures. He outlines a theoretical approach and then applies it in analyzing the Biblical account of Avram and Sarai in Egypt.
Creating Change in a Complex System: A New Perspective on the Role of Central Agencies for Jewish Education
This paper offers first a historical analysis of the role of central agencies for Jewish education in America, followed by a model of how central agencies today can best position themselves as communal change agents.
Animated Talmud: Introduction to the Talmud
Animated Talmud is a new online free computer program that teaches Talmud through animation sequences and interactive media making the learning process enjoyable, easy and clear. Introduction to the Talmud provides an overview of the Oral Tradition of the Torah, its development and codification. The student encounters Torah personalities & formative events of the Talmudic tradition, while acquiring the basic knowledge required for beginning Talmud study.
FSU Principals Learn Together in Israel
As summer was drawing to a close, 26 principals from the three Jewish education networks in the Former Soviet Union came together for an eight-day seminar, designed and implemented by the Melton Centre for Jewish Education at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, to strengthen their managerial and other skills.
