The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) unveiled a new strategy for engaging youth at its Biennial Convention in San Diego this past week. “Inspired Engagement” – what the URJ is branding as their distinct way of engaging youth – emerged after an eight-month strategic planning process that included voices of more than 700 stakeholders from across the Jewish community and beyond.

Registration is now open for URJ 6 Points Sci-Tech Academy, a new summer camp offering high-level programming in science and technology. This innovative new camp will open in July 2014 on the campus of The Governor’s Academy near Boston. The Governor’s Academy, 30 minutes north of Boston, features modern educational, recreational and dorm facilities combined with a rustic campus to give a “summer camp” feel and create a safe and warm environment for campers.

The Union for Reform Judaism has launched the first issue of the Journal of Youth Engagement as part of their Campaign for Youth Engagement. The Journal of Youth Engagement is a forum of ideas and dialogue for those committed to engaging youth in vibrant Jewish life and living.

The URJ Youth Engagement Conference has been re-envisioned to be an opportunity to gather the brightest and most dedicated youth professionals, clergy and lay leaders to network, learn together, and share best practices at the LAX Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, CA on February 15-19, 2013. There will also be opportunities to connect with teens from your congregation who are participating in the concurrent NFTY Convention.

The Reform Movement announced this week the founding of the first Jewish specialty camp for science and technology. The new Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) camp, called the URJ 6 Points Science Academy, will open in the summer of 2014 in Boston, MA, and serve upwards of 600 campers in grades 6-10 over three two-week sessions per summer.

The CHAI Curriculum is a flexible educational system for Reform congregational schools based on the values of Torah, Avodah and G'milut Chasadim. The curriculum is for grades 1-7 and is based on the most important concepts and values of Jewish life, helping students grow into committed and thoughtful Jewish adults. Each core level contains 27 complete one-hour classroom lessons in Torah, Avodah and G'milut Chasdadim plus family education lessons.

The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) produces a biweekly podcast for Jewish parents delivered by noted experts in education, counseling, child development and other related fields. The short 2-7 minute segments about Jewish parenting can be downloaded and listened to on the go, played while sitting at the computer and multitasking or used as a basis for a parenting discussion group. The podcast segments are archived and classified by topic and speaker for easy retrieval.

The URJ welcomes the participation of congregational volunteer leaders and professionals at the URJ's Education Summit, December 14-16, 2011, outside Washington, DC. The Summit, a track of the URJ Biennial Convention, will include large and small group sessions dedicated to Teen Engagement successes, learning, and a campaign platform for congregations to sign on to – dedicating their efforts to maximize teen engagement with the 2020 vision of reaching a majority of b'nei/b'not mitzvah through high school and beyond.
