Many educators and entrepreneurs are now looking to technology to provide new and compelling ways to connect with youth about the Holocaust. They hope to counteract the fact that more and more young people have either not heard of the Holocaust, or aren’t sure what it is or, worse still, believe vicious lies about it.

Launched in the spring by the Israeli American Council, or IAC, the Ofek Learning Hub offers classes on an array of topics related to Judaism, Jews and Israel in Hebrew or English (or both). The idea is to maintain and cultivate American Jews’ connection to Israel even at a time when travel to Israel is not possible because of the coronavirus.

Studies of Jewish day schools’ websites regarding opportunities for students to engage in physical activity (PA) have not been published. We analyzed the content of 516 North American Jewish day schools’ websites in 237 cities to ascertain mentions of sports (i.e., interscholastic) and PAs (e.g., intramural sports, PA clubs) and to determine how their prevalence differed by school religiosity, composition, and level. Overall, 41% and 45% of websites mentioned at least one sport and PA, respectively. Liberal (vs. Orthodox and Haredi), coeducational (vs. single sex), and schools with secondary grades (vs. elementary only) mentioned proportionately more sports, PA, or both.

In our efforts to continue to support teachers, UnitED, in partnership with Prizmah:CJDS and JEIC, has developed two short (4-5 min) videos done by @Sam Pearlson of SAR Academy to offer practical examples of how to integrate EdTech tools into Jewish Studies/Kodesh teaching. The videos take you through the planning of a unit from start to finish, including sample content, identifying goals and objectives, practical application of tools and assessing student learning.
