Torah Flora - The Biblical Botany Website

Torah Flora is a website devoted to Biblical ethnobotany, a way of using the tools of botany and ethnobotany to help us better understand the Torah. This includes such things as identifying the plants and other natural phenomena mentioned in the Tanach (Jewish Bible), using information about these plants to shed light on their use in prophetic metaphor, and studying the plants involved in performing various mitzvot in order to better appreciate and perform those mitzvot.

My Family Story International Competition

For over 14 years, Beth Hatefutsoth has been engaging tens of thousands of students from all over the world in Jewish heritage through the annual 'My Family Story International Competition'. In this competition, middle school students research and present their family stories and thereby explore their collective Jewish history. In the 2009 competition, more than 20,000 students from different countries around the world participated presenting projects in their own languages.

Veggies' Kashrut May Be Revoked for Over-Spraying

The Israeli Chief Rabbinate is embarking on a new initiative led by Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger to revoke kosher certificates from fruit and vegetable growers who overuse pesticides. If the initiative is authorized, it will be the first time the Chief Rabbinate stipulates conditions not directly related to kosher laws for the issuance of a kosher certificate.

Only in America - Hall of Fame Online Polling Website

When the National Museum of American Jewish History opens at its new location on Philadelphia’s Independence Mall in November 2010, a core piece of its permanent exhibition will be the “Only in America Gallery/Hall of Fame”. The museum has relaunched its Web site including a section asking the public to help select the first 18 subjects for this exhibit.

Pioneers for a Cure – Songs to Fight Cancer

In an effort to raise funds to support organizations pioneering new methods in cancer treatment and research, some of today's top Jewish musical artists have recorded the music of the pioneers of Israel, the soundtrack to Jewish life during the early to mid 1900's. Proceeds from the project will be distributed to the cancer charity selected by each artist. Among the contributing artists are, Neshama Carlebach, Pharaoh's Daughter, Rashanim, Adrienne Cooper, Noah Solomon, Frank London, Tovah Feldshuh, David Browsa, Dudu Fisher, etc. The Pioneers for a Cure website was launched on the last Israel Independence Day with thirty tracks of original pioneering songs available to download.

The Eliasaf Robinson Tel Aviv Collection and Exhibition

A rich online exhibit and digital collection of the materials about Tel Aviv, 'The First Hebrew City,' which marks its centennial in 2009. Browse or search books, photographs, posters, postcards, and other material about Tel Aviv. The digitized collection now includes over one thousand photographs and postcards, three hundred printed volumes, two hundred large format materials (posters, maps and sewer diagrams) and six linear feet of archival materials. In addition to the annotated exhibit and digitized materials, the site includes an introductory essay, searching and browsing aid and related links.

The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival Interactive Website

The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival (SFJFF), has unveiled an innovative online resource for Jewish film. The new website will offer short films to watch online, easy access to information on hundreds of film titles, downloadable podcasts and videos that add context to film selections, viewer recommendations, educational and curricular materials, social networking opportunities, new tools for audience interactivity in theaters and more. This represents the first phase of an ongoing effort to build the largest and most comprehensive online resource for Jewish film in the world.

The Summer 2009 Jewish Open Source Curriculum Project

The Summer 2009 Jewish Open Source Curriculum Project is a pilot project which aims to collaboratively develop a curriculum for Orthodox Jewish education. The goal of the project is to develop educational standards and then create open source curricular materials which target those standards. As a first step in this progress, teachers are invited to collaborate in developing a short fourth grade Dinim (Jewish Law) curriculum for the Yamim Noraim (High Holidays) with both print and interactive digital content.
