MOFET ITEC – International Teacher Educators Community of The MOFET Institute is proud to present an online webinar without charge to the global education community with Dr. Yael Fischer on The Road to Excellence: Success Stories of Schools on Wednesday, June 15, 2011- 7:00-8:30P.M. - Israel time. The lecture will deal with the characteristics of excellent schools. These characteristics are based on the documentation of success stories of schools that were considered good and that succeeded in becoming excellent. Such documentation does not constitute the development of a new managerial theory, but rather reveals the unique components that led these schools to undergo a change from “good” to “excellent”. Although the lecture will deal mainly with the conceptualization of “an excellent school”, it will also briefly recount the success stories of the excellent schools.

The MOFET Institute's Online Academy has opened registration for the Fall, 2011 semester of online courses whose main objective is to prepare teachers, educators and leaders in Jewish communities in the Diaspora for their mission. The courses, in areas that are suitable for educators and leaders in the Jewish world as well as students in universities and colleges in the fields of the didactics and pedagogy of teaching Jewish subjects in the Diaspora, are taught via the internet, a-synchronously with synchronous components. The course developers and lecturers are all experts in their fields and senior staff members of Israel's top institutes of higher education.

MOFET JTEC has begun planning an online forum for individuals involved in Hebrew education in the Diaspora. The forum, which is being planned in response to the needs and requests from the field, will serve as a “meeting place” in which the participants can get together, raise problems and issues related to their work, be exposed to what is happening in other places, and jointly build a learning-working community of peers.

MOFET JTEC recently completed its fourth Israel seminar for Teacher educators, teachers and leaders of Jewish communities in the Spanish speaking world. This was the first session held in the Israeli winter and proved to be an unforgettable experience for the 43 participants from Argentina, Chile and Spain. The seminar focused on Jewish leadership models throughout Jewish history to the present, on the analysis of the participants' management styles, and on designing ways to promote the participants' role as teacher educators, teachers and community leaders now and in the future. During the two week seminar, the participants studied, toured the country, and met prominent Israelis such as Government Ministers, Members of the Knesset, Ministry of Education officials, leaders of social organizations, and much more.

MOFET ITEC has announced a special Israel study tour dedicated to the inclusion of people with special needs into higher education and society on May 15th – 19th, 2011. The main goal of the tour is to present the concept of 'Academia for All' and its implementation as expressed in academic institutions in Israel, while becoming acquainted with what is being done in other places in the world and thus creating a professional dialogue among the experts. The various sessions will emphasize the common concept of accessibility in Israel and its implementation in institutions of higher education. Relevant and innovative research of recent years in Israel will be presented. During the study tour the participants – experts, researchers and other professionals from around the world – will meet with their colleagues in Israel, who deal with access to higher education for people with limitations.

Cynthia Ozick, in her article 'The Rights of History and the Rights of Imagination,' raises the issue of ethical considerations and moral responsibility when writing about the Holocaust. Ozick asserts that 'what is permissible to the playfully ingenious author of Robinson Crusoe - fiction masking as chronicle - is not permitted to those who touch on the destruction of six million souls, and on the extirpation of their millennial civilization in Europe.' This webinar will focus on the tension that exists between ethics and aesthetics when analyzing Holocaust literature and film.

This webinar will help school personnel better understand and address dangerous applications of technology impacting today’s youth. This is not a “technophobic” presentation. Instead the emphasis is on creating a healthy balance of helpful technology and protecting adolescents from its more destructive applications. Attendees will explore the different varieties of technology available, along with unhealthy ways in which this can be utilized. The ways in which technology is affecting youth academically and socially will be addressed as well.

In this forthcoming webinar, we shall investigate a few of the problems and pedagogical questions that preoccupy the teachers and the language policy-makers in Jewish schools in the Diaspora. These questions include the issue of 'Hebrew in Hebrew', stressing classical Hebrew (Biblical Hebrew) or spoken Hebrew (contemporary Hebrew), fostering oral expression, and so on. By means of a joint discussion, we shall outline several teaching directions while emphasizing the special challenges facing the teacher in the Diaspora.
