Larry Yudelson writes about a technology revolution taking place in New Jersey day schools thanks to a donation of about 500 iPads to three schools, equipping their entire sixth or ninth grades. Dan Fried, a local chemist, has jumpstarted technology in Bergen County classrooms by funding iPads for students in three Paramus yeshivot — elementary schools Yeshivat Noam and Yavneh Academy, and a high school, the Frisch School.

Larry Yudelson writes about the launching in northern New Jersey of iEngage, a program designed by the Jerusalem-based Shalom Hartman Institute to make Israel the topic of conversations about values rather than battles about politics. Eleven iEngage programs will be taking place in the area, most meeting on a weekly basis, and several bringing together rabbis and congregants from many synagogues. A total of 24 local rabbis are taking part. The program is being brought to northern New Jersey under a grant from the Adler Innovation Fund of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey.

Starting Jan. 11, The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School is offering a new Foundations of Jewish Family Living course in NJ. The 10-week class will focus on issues of interest to parents. The new family living course will focus on values. Each week of the course will take a specific value — honor, hospitality, visiting the sick, etc. — and apply the layered text-based approach that is the Melton method.
