The Jewish Agency for Israel is launching a new program for innovative, informal Hebrew language education at summer camps throughout the Jewish world. The aim is to spark an interest and curiosity about Hebrew among Jewish kids and teens, and to deepen their familiarity with Israeli culture. The program will be launched this summer with the assistance of the Jewish Agency's shlichim (emissaries) who will use Israeli songs, educational games, outdoor activities, sport, cooking workshops and more to provide campers with an introductory Hebrew vocabulary and familiarity with Israeli slang.

In the beginning — November 2014 — Benny Lau, a Modern Orthodox rabbi in Jerusalem, taught the first chapter of Genesis. More than three years and 929 chapters later, he’s starting it all again on Sunday. But this time in English as well. “I want to give the Bible back to the people,” Lau told The Times of Israel recently. “For too long it has been held captive by the yeshivas and universities. It was lost from the rest of the nation and I want to return it to them.”

The Jewish Agency for Israel announced that the Israeli government will allocate up to 9 million shekels ($2.48 million) in the coming years to its Partnership Unit’s Global School Twinning Network, primarily to fund the expansion of the groundbreaking educational initiative that cultivates Israel-Diaspora connectedness.
