The article revisits how Zionist sport activists and leaders in the Palestine of the 1920s and 1930s portrayed the desired transformation of their bodies and identities. It focuses, in particular, on the role that images of the “orient” played in that wishful transformation. For this purpose, the paper juxtaposes two different sport experiences that were carried out by members of the Maccabi Sport Organization: hiking expeditions within Palestine of the 1920s and 1930s and two motorcycle tours from Palestine to Europe, held in 1930 and 1931.

The efforts of the Tavor pre-army 'mechina' (preparatory) program have borne fruit. Out of the 20 students who completed the last cycle of the program, four have been accepted into IDF's Air Force flight school, two made it into Shayetet (the Navy Seals) three have been accepted into Sayeret Matkal (a special operations unit), two (including one woman) made it into an elite intelligence unit, and one got into the naval academy.

Speakers of a foreign language who identify with the native speakers' culture will have less of an accent in that tongue, according to a new study by researchers from Haifa University. The study, published in the International Journal of Bilingualism, suggests that fluency in the second language is related to how the speaker wishes to be viewed by the majority group.

On the Road to Statehood is a series of twenty web-based lessons, for middle-school students that focus on Zionist history from 1881 until November 29, 1947. Students experience this pivotal era in Zionist history through the eyes of ten characters, featured throughout the site, who tell their own historically relevant stories. These stories engage the students and help make the historical periods come alive for them.
