The Tikvah Overseas Student Institute invites gap-year students studying in Israel to apply for a series of seminars sponsored by the Tikvah Fund. The educational programs that make up the institute supplement gap-year curricula by providing intimate settings for interdisciplinary study, dialogue, and camaraderie with other select students. By exposing our participants to great texts, intellectuals, and activists, the institute aims to inspire the next generation of thinkers who can lead the Jewish community, informed by Jewish values and ideas, as we confront the great questions of our times.

The JCPA Leadership Program in Arab-Israel Studies is a high level, advanced academic program designed for the elite college bound student interested in the various issues surrounding the Israel-Arab conflict. It provides an intensive, demanding and often emotional immersion into the historical, cultural and political aspects of the Middle East from a variety of experts. Throughout the year, students visit important sites in the area and meet with individuals and groups that are active in Israel-Arab affairs. Our goal is to educate young men and women in the Jewish community who will work as informed activists and campus leaders to provide programming directed at specific groups and consistent with the goals of the program.

The Tikvah Fund is pleased to sponsor a year-long seminar to promote serious thinking about the nexus of Jewish values and enduring human questions. Through presentations and retreats, the program brings together some of Israel’s finest rabbis, scholars, and activists with curious and motivated students. The program, directed by Rabbi Shlomo Brody, supplements overseas program curriculums by providing a forum for interdisciplinary study, dialogue, and camaraderie amongst a select group of students. By exposing our participants to a range of perspectives from public intellectuals and thinkers, we hope to help develop the next generation of learned and committed Jewish thinkers.

The Shalom Hartman Institute and Hebrew College announced the establishment of Hevruta, a unique gap-year program in Israel for 20 North American and 20 Israeli high school graduates designed to build a new generation of leadership built on a new narrative of Israel-World Jewry relations, commencing in September, 2014.

The Tivnu Gap Year Program is a 9-month residential experience for high school graduates, ages 17-20, from across North America and beyond. Participants work, study, and live together in Portland, Oregon, building homes, creating community, and exploring the connections between Judaism and social justice. We believe that it is important for Jews to engage in social justice work not just as individuals, but as representatives of the Jewish community in partnership with other communities. We act from the conviction that housing is a human right and a cornerstone of a life of stability, dignity, and opportunity.

The program intends to supplement Israel program curriculums by providing a forum for interdisciplinary study, dialogue, and camaraderie amongst a select group of students. By exposing participants to a range of perspectives from public intellectuals and thinkers, they hope to help develop the next generation of thoughtful and learned Jewish leaders.
