The National Yiddish Book Center is pleased to announce the Great Jewish Books Teacher Workshop, a program for secondary and supplementary school teachers interested in enriching their curricula with materials that reflect the variety and depth of modern Jewish literature and culture. Twenty participants will be selected for the program, taking place at the Yiddish Book Center, July 26-31, 2015.
The program begins with a five-day summer retreat at the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Massachusetts, home to exhibits on Jewish history and culture as well as a vast collection of Yiddish books. Together, participants will read and discuss key works of modern Jewish literature and culture and, working with leading scholars, develop materials to introduce in their classrooms in the coming academic year. They will also share these materials with colleagues nationwide through a dedicated digital platform.
All teachers accepted to the program will receive full scholarships covering the cost of the workshop as well as room and board. Each participant also will receive a travel subsidy and a personal stipend of $750.
Applications are due April 14, 2015
