Ha’Archion: The Hebrew Literature Audio Archive

Source: Ha’Archion

The Archion is the first project of its kind in Hebrew: recording prose and poetry works written in Modern and Classical Hebrew. The recordings were done by professional narrators and leading artists, and can all be listened to online for free.

The archive was born out of the need to document these wonderful and varied works – some of which are in the public domain, and others recorded with the generous consent of the rights holders – and to bring them to as wide an audience as possible. This is done through the use of digital means that erase geographic, cultural and other boundaries, document, preserve and transform the written word into one that is heard and engraved in listeners’ hearts.

The archive website, initiated and managed by Moshe Sakal, and carried out by the Israeli Center for Libraries and Icast Studios, contains hundreds of pages of works. In the future, additional works will be recorded in the project, enriching the digital treasury with new voices – distant yet close.

Among the authors:

Leah Goldberg
Chaim Nachman Bialik
Y.C. Brenner
Yehuda Halevi
Eliezer Ben Yehuda
Avot Yeshurun
Elazar Kalir
