The Hayyinu Ke-holmim (“We Were as Dreamers”) initiative is a project of Herzog College, in cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Religious Education. This initiative focuses on individual daily study of books of Tanakh (in Ivrit): Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Ezra, and Nehemiah, with the aim of studying one chapter each day. All students in the State Religious School System (HEMED) participate. The communal learning of Nakh (Prophets and Writings) by all of the HEMED students is being carried out under the slogan “We Were as Dreamers – the State of Israel’s Existence in Light of the Vision of the Prophets.”
The Hayyinu Ke-holmim project is experiential, and is enriched and facilitated by an optimized website as well as with a mobile app (Android and iPhone) that can be downloaded.
The study project involves learning one chapter a day. It encompasses multiple learning styles, and is appropriate for a variety of levels, beginning with reading the chapter and advancing to in-depth study of special study materials for any given chapter.
As part of the individual study process, the students can collect points along different learning stages. The points add up, and entitle the students to prizes and to participation in different events and experiences that are connected to this initiative.
This learning project is not only geared to school students— there is a place for parents to participate, as well. Different learning styles lend themselves to this project, whether individual study or daily family learning where each family member participates, or even community study experiences (shul groups, friends, colleagues, etc.).
