BJENY-SAJES, an agency of UJA-Federation of New York, is a 100 year old organization undergoing major transformation to meet the changing needs of Jewish education in the 21st century. The New Center for Collaborative Leadership (NCCL) is a department within the newly merged BJENY-SAJES. NCCL is dedicated to innovation and sustainable change focusing primarily on engaging more Jewish youth in more meaningful Jewish life throughout the Greater New York region. Over the past two years, the NCCL has established itself as one of the leading organizations dedicated to Jewish youth programming in relevant and meaningful ways.
BJENY-SAJES is searching for 3 part-time interns for the 2010-2011 academic year. The interns will work the equivalent of 1 ½ - 2 days a week. The interns will be under the direct supervision of the newly appointed Associate Youth Director (AYD) and Director of the the New Center for Collaborative Leadership (NCCL). The interns will be tasked with designing and disseminating appealing means of engaging Jewish teens in the greater New York area. As appropriate they will also be responsible for the training of Jewish youth professionals to implement and evaluate the products and/or programs which they design.
The three Internships will focus on the following domains:
a. Social Media: Design, develop and pilot innovative strategies, for implementing various social media platforms within Jewish youth organizations. This will also involve uses of social media in educational programming and the training of youth professionals and staff of BJENY-SAJES in using social media platforms in their work.
b. Educational Technology and/or Online Gaming: Design, develop and pilot technological application(s) and/or prototype(s) of online game(s) which can be utilized by Jewish youth professionals. This includes being instrumental in developing a business plan and a financial model for a future entity that will research, design, develop and evaluate various technology applications in multiple Jewish youth environments.
c. Jewish Social Justice: Design, develop, implement and evaluate an innovative project, curriculum and/or program that engages Jewish teens in meaningful Jewish life around issues of Jewish social justice. This will include design and documentation for the purposes of adaptability and scalability.
In addition to working within their individual domains, the 3 interns will collaborate half a day together every week, with other members of the NCCL, thinking creatively and strategically about different ways to engage 21st century Jewish youth in meaningful Jewish education and life.
Internship Dates: September 7, 2010 – May 27th, 2011. (can be negotiated)
Salary: $10,000 - $13,500 (based on number of hours committed to internship)
