With the power of a $3.1 million grant from the AVI CHAI Foundation over three years, the Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education (PEJE) has stimulated a six-figure investment from three communities in North America to address the very real challenge of day school affordability. The Generations pilot program , a three-way collaboration between PEJE, a federation or central Jewish agency, and AVI CHAI, seeks to transform the way schools fund their budgets by raising endowment and legacy gifts. The Generations program offers communities and schools expertise in building endowments through customized coaching, local and national training programs, assistance with potential donor identification, cultivation and stewardship, and the establishment of a national knowledge center to share best practices.

The 2010 PEJE Assembly for Advancing the Jewish Day School Field to be held in Baltimore between October 24-26, 2010 has announced its schedule. The Assembly is designed to harness collective strength—knowledge, experience, passion, expertise, and vision—and provide the setting for day school and community leaders to engage in national conversation, discover alternative possibilities, connect to new resources and ideas, and learn from each other.

Partnership for Excellence in Jewish Education (PEJE) will be holding two conference-workshops for day school administrators dealing with admissions, development and fundraising in August, 2009. The conferences are aimed at honing the core skills of school administrators to help them cope with the challenges of the economic climate.

In early December, 2008, PEJE convened a conference call with leaders of the denominational networks and major Jewish organizations to serve as a think tank on the harsh economic realities schools are facing. Out of this call grew the initiative for a series of field-wide conference calls to address crucial topics that schools are facing.

The 4th volume in PEJE's series on 'Noteworthy Practices in Jewish Day School Education' describes 22 schools and programs that serve diverse learners in day schools. This publication, produced in collaboration with the Bureau of Jewish Education of Greater Boston, draws together current information about noteworthy special education programs to meet the needs of professional and lay leaders, teachers and parents.
