Aliza Rosenbaum has been teaching Judaic Subjects to seventh and eighth grade students at Hillel Torah North Suburban Day School in Skokie, Il for seven years. She has spent much of that time experimenting in her classroom in the hopes of developing the most effective ways to teach and work with her students. In 2017, she applied for the Sefaria’s Educational Partnership Initiative to see what might happen when Sefer Devarim (Deuteronomy) goes digital.

Sefaria, a free living library of Jewish texts and their interconnections, is inaugurating two new ways to help Jewish educators around the world use the Sefaria platform to augment their teaching: The Sefaria Training Course for Educators and Sefaria’s Innovation Circle.

For the 2016-2017 school year, Sefaria seeks creative educators who are ready to innovate and are open to new ways of thinking about teaching and learning. We plan to include up to 10 day schools in this Initiative. Each school will need one or two lead educators who are committed to working closely with Sefaria over the course of the year. Sefaria is pleased to announce our partnership initiative for the 2015-2016 academic year. We plan to assemble a small cohort of innovative educators, representing six different institutions, who wish to optimize their use of technology to create a richer educational experience in the Jewish studies classroom. Our partner educators will benefit from on-demand tech support from our team of engineers, as well as curricular assistance from our director of education. Sefaria is open to the possibility of building new features or adding texts to support ideas and enable educators to deepen their impact.

In May and early June, Director of Education Sara Wolkenfeld will host virtual training sessions to help educators learn how to harness Sefaria’s capabilities as a teaching tool. Sessions include: Sefaria for Beginners, Classroom Educators, and Synagogue and Community-Based Learning. Sefaria is a living library of Jewish texts in a beautiful interface, fully interconnected, with parallel translations, for free.
