The Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF), in partnership with Genesis Philanthropy Group (GPG), is broadening its outreach to Russian-speaking Jewish families in North America by bringing its PJ Library program to additional Russian-speaking Jewish communities. Greater Miami Jewish Federation, Montreal Federation CJA and the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley are the first three PJ Library communities to be awarded this grant opportunity.

As more congregations experiment with new, dynamic, and engaging Jewish learning opportunities, Shinui: the Network for Innovation in Part-Time Jewish Education is sharing insight and innovative education models to help communities across the country. Earlier this week, Shinui launched a four-part webinar series on various stages of a congregation’s “change process,” designed to help and connect agencies, staff, educators, and other individuals across communities. Each webinar is led by innovators in different communities and focuses on a concrete element of the change process.

Over 100 Jewish student leaders from more than 25 countries joined together last week for the annual Congress of the World Union of Jewish Students. To help support the local economy, the Congress took place in the South of Israel where WUJS purchased all congress supplies from local companies, hired local services and provided opportunities for participants to volunteer with local charities. The goal of the Congress was to set the agenda for the coming year, coordinate international activities and receive vital training. The student leaders and activists who attended connected with their peers, strengthened ties between their different student unions and increased their knowledge about Israel and the Jewish people.

Eleven hundred high school seniors from twenty-five Jewish schools across France celebrated the third night of Hanukkah (Thursday, December 18, 2014) in Jerusalem. Participants enjoyed performances by Israeli singer-songwriter Yonatan Razel and IDF Chief Cantor Lt. Col. Shai Abramson, accompanied by the IDF Rabbinate Troupe. Bac Bleu Blanc (“High School Seniors in Blue and White”) is a program run by The Jewish Agency for Israel, with the support of Keren Hayesod-UIA, that brings French Jewish high school seniors to Israel on a one-week educational trip every winter.
