PJ Library has expanded to six new countries and two new languages. Programs in Brazil, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland are shipping children’s books to thousands of families for the first time, and new programs are launching in Ireland and Estonia.

Earlier this year, our foundations worked for several months on releasing new research from Atlantic 57 about young adults’ engagement and connection to Jewish life and community. We were set to launch right as COVID-19 escalated. We put these plans on hold as organizations responded to this crisis and focused on supporting their staff, families, communities and those they serve. We now know that COVID-19 is going to have a longer lasting and more significant impact than any of us could have imagined. While there is no right time to release research amid a pandemic, we have decided to share it now because we hope the insights in this report will benefit the field and help our communities.

On April 30th, after a difficult and thoughtful process, the URJ Camps, and a few other Jewish overnight camps announced their decisions not to open this summer. In total, as of April 30th, almost 20 Jewish overnight camps will not be opening for 2020. It is unprecedented and painful for everyone involved. There are an additional 144 Jewish overnight camps, sharing their pain and sorrow over this decision.

“Unpacked for Educators”, a digital resource for Jewish educators from Jerusalem U, has launched the Unpacked for Educators Partner School Research Initiative. This research initiative, which will run during the 2019-2020 school year, will help the Unpacked for Educators team better understand the use and impact of its Israel education resources and content in schools across the religious spectrum and across the world.

More than 30 leading Jewish thinkers and activists from around the world are convening in Jerusalem today to launch Our Common Destiny, a ground-breaking initiative created to strengthen the bonds among Jews worldwide. The project is a joint initiative of Genesis Philanthropy Group and the State of Israel, under the auspices of Israel’s President. Our Common Destiny strives to connect Jews to each other and to Israel across diverse religious and cultural identities through a shared set of ethics and values. This Forum runs Monday, September 9 through Wednesday, September 11, with scholars from six continents.

To help more Jewish day schools infuse Israel into all aspects of school life and learning, The iCenter is welcoming eight new day schools across North America into the third cohort of its initiative, iNfuse: Israel in Jewish Day Schools. Each school will create a plan to make Israel education and experiences a deeper part of all aspects of school life, including classes such as science, the arts, Jewish studies, Hebrew language, all-school Israel engagement, and Israel travel.

Beginning in 2019, the Certificate in Jewish Leadership for Educators will provide senior-level educators the knowledge and skills necessary for them to serve in leadership capacities. The curriculum will prepare participants to meet educational challenges facing Jewish communities in the 21st century and to embrace growth opportunities in their careers and organizations.

JCC Association of North America has announced the inaugural Sheva Center Leadership Institute for Early Childhood Professionals with the acceptance of 31 educators into a program created to build a pipeline in the field of early childhood education of prepared leadership. The Fellows are all currently educators and administrators in JCCs throughout North America.

The critically acclaimed documentary trilogy “Russian Jews,” which intimately portrays the stories of Russian Jewry throughout the 20th century, is now available online on Youtube, courtesy of Genesis Philanthropy Group. Following a record-breaking theatrical release across Russia, a premiere at Israel’s Knesset, sold-out screenings across the United States, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Latvia and Georgia as well as Jewish film festivals in Moscow, Manchester, Atlanta and Australia, the series, which was created by famous Russian journalist/TV host Leonid Parfenov and produced by Genesis Philanthropy Group and Studio Namdeni, will now reach an even wider audience, providing much-needed context surrounding Russian-Jewish heritage and history.
