Social networks and collaborative social media have become part of the lives of millions of people around the world, as well as part of the reality of student life. Social networks challenge the education system to promote authentic learning and teaching processes in educational activities in environments relevant to our students, with significant social interaction in online platforms, implementing 21st century skills while raising awareness to a wise, ethical and safe conduct in the social networking environment.

The Haifa District of the Israel Ministry of Education has announced that it will begin implementing learning and educational processes on designated educational social networks during the 2012-3 school year. Participating schools will be able choose the learning activities to meet their needs, and apply them in social network environments. The use of educational social networks, approved by the Ministry of Education, will be free of charge to the participating schools.

Schools at all levels (elementary, middle and high schools) are eligible to apply for the pilot program. Participating schools should nominate qualified teachers, who will undergo training and guidance.
