The 7th Annual Hebrew Conference of North America is a continuation of a tradition initiated by the World Zionist Organization and is done in cooperation with the Council for Hebrew Language and Culture in North America and the North American Association of Hebrew Teachers (NAHeT). The Hebrew Conference literally celebrates the importance of Hebrew as a language, as a culture and as a key to identity. During these two days, November 17-18, 2019, in Newark NJ, there will be lectures, panels, and workshops dealing with Hebrew and the teaching of the language in all its aspects, ideology and methodology, inspirational sessions, practical tools and more. The theme of this year's conference is - Hebrew – The Time is Now! and will deal with the state of Hebrew instruction in North America, formulating ways of coping with the current challenges, and expanding the professional knowledge of Hebrew teachers - both in theory and in practice.

Masa Israel Teaching Fellows (MITF), a Masa initiative in partnership with Israel’s Ministry of Education, is set to launch its ninth year of programming with 200 English-speaking young Jewish professionals. Fellows will teach English in elementary and middle schools within Israel’s social and geographic periphery, including in the cities of Beit She’an, Ramla, Nazareth, Bat-Yam, Rishon LeZion, Haifa, Ashdod, Rehovot, Netanya, Beit-Shemesh, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Twenty-nine educators have recently gathered at the National Museum of American Jewish History in July 2019 for its fourth annual National Educators Institute (NEI) – The Art and Science of Teaching American Jewish History. Representing eleven states and twenty cities, and split evenly between day schools and congregational schools, participants immersed themselves in workshops and experiences led by notable scholars and Museum staff.

In the fall of 2017, Echoes & Reflections, a partnership program of ADL, USC Shoah Foundation, and Yad Vashem, debuted its new website to further carry out its mission of supporting educators with dynamic classroom materials and professional development to effectively teach about the Holocaust. Since 2005, Echoes & Reflections has impacted more than 60,000 educators, reaching an estimated 6 million students across the United States. Over the past two years, as we have witnessed the unfortunate rise in antisemitism, the enhanced offerings of the Echoes & Reflections website have provided educators the Holocaust training and resources they need to empower their students to think critically about this important historical event and its impact on their lives today.

At Ayeka, we believe that Jewish education must be broadened to engage the whole student in his or her uniqueness: mind, body, heart, and imagination. We partner with six day schools of different denominations across the country to train teachers in our unique pedagogy of Soulful Education. Our goal is to nurture the inner lives of the teachers themselves and to provide them with the tools to personally, emotionally, and spiritually engage their students. Relational Learning as a Foundation for Professional Development in Technology Integration for Jewish Educators
This study explores how the relationships between congregational school Jewish educators built during ongoing havruta (partner-based) text study can carry over into a professional relationship that is aimed toward learning to integrate technology. Participants cited multiple relational contexts as prominently supporting both text and technology learning.These relational building blocks formed a foundation for a rich, supportive community of Jewish educator-learners expanding pedagogy to include new technologies.

Israeli Teacher Educators’ Perceptions of Their Professional Development Paths in Teaching, Research and Institutional Leadership
Teacher educators have three main paths for career development: teaching, research and institutional leadership. These may be mutually supportive, but also, sources of tension. Recent national and institutional policies encourage teacher educators to increase their research activities. This study aims to describe Israeli teacher educators’ perceptions of the three paths, and their interrelationships, as influenced by their work contexts. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 experienced, research-orientated teacher educators who work in various teacher education colleges in Israel.

The purpose of this paper is to focus on professional learning communities (PLCs) run for and by teachers to achieve their ongoing professional development and greater pupil attainment. The paper examined principals’ perceptions of how such PLCs influence teachers, teacher learning and school processes, and their own involvement in PLCs operating in their schools. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 of 97 principals from three of the four Israel educational districts participating in a pilot programme to achieve in-service teacher professional development through supported PLCs.
