In the wake of the Israel-Hamas war in summer 2014, US and Canadian college campuses were the settings for many anti-Israel activities, including the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign. This report has two aims: first, to understand the extent of hostility toward Israel and antisemitism on North American campuses and second, to assess the relationship between these trends and Jewish students’ support for and connection to Israel. The study, conducted in spring 2015, draws on a survey of US and Canadian college students and young adults who applied to Taglit-Birthright Israel.

This past week, CASJE (the Consortium for Applied Studies in Jewish Education), in conjunction with The Jewish Education Project, brought together experts across disciplines to tackle this important question. I was surprised, especially given recent events, how many of the panelists adopted positions that relativized and even minimized the importance of antisemitism in contemporary Jewish Education. I have embedded their conversation below and I am curious if readers agree with their analysis.

The popular video sharing website, YouTube, has turned to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to contribute to its newly launched Abuse & Safety Center, where users are empowered to identify and confront hate, and to report abuses. The Safety Center features information and links to resources developed by ADL to help Internet users respond to and report offensive material and extremist content that violates YouTube's Community Guidelines on hate speech.
