The Contemporary Jewish Museum (CJM) is pleased to announce the first annual Jewish Education and Technology (JET) Institute. A week-long conference (Aug 5 – Aug 9, 2013) for Jewish day school educators held at the CJM in San Francisco, JET supports Jewish day school teachers to leverage technology to create more dynamic, effective, and relevant learning environments.

JET’s Mission

JET’s mission is to enhance instructional practices in Jewish education through hands-on technology training and support for day school educators so that they may design Jewish curricula that:

  • Builds twenty-first century skills necessary to succeed in an increasingly digital world

  • Addresses multiple learning styles

  • Provides more opportunities for personal meaning-making

  • Speaks to the interests, passions, and aesthetic values of today’s youth

At the JET Institute, teachers will:
  • Learn from technology experts and Jewish thought leaders

  • Experiment with new platforms, programs, and applications

  • Apply technological skills and resources to curriculum-inspired projects

  • Workshop ideas with colleagues and technology coaches

  • Receive one-on-one coaching from master teachers

  • Experience exemplary web-based resources for teachers

  • Explore San Francisco’s rich cultural offerings

The Institute is followed by support to execute the teacher's particular vision. The CJM provides each participant with a personal coach who mentors and assists with regularly-scheduled sessions through the school year.

Who Should Apply?

Applications are open to middle and high school educators who work in Jewish day schools, particularly from the mid-west to the western United States. Each school is encouraged to send two or more teachers. The CJM seeks applicants who are already versed or interested in the use of technology in their classroom and are looking to broaden their skills and expand their support.

Selection Process

The 2013 institute is limited to 25 participants. Priority will be given to schools that demonstrate institutional support for facilitating technology integration as well as day schools in the western United States.

The JET Institute is supported by a signature grant from The Covenant Foundation. Additional funding for JET is provided by an innovation grant from The Jim Joseph Foundation.

See the JET Institute web page for further information and registration.
