On Thursday, May 21, 2009 a delegation of 9 Saudi Arabian educators and administrators visited the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy in Kansas City. The educators were in greater Kansas City as part of the US State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program. The focus of their mission was to compare public and private education in the United States.
The delegation was hosted by the school administration, staff, parents and students. They visited classes, met with students and discussed educational policy and practice with the staff and administration.
While in the Kansas City area, the group visited HBHA, the Harrisonville, Mo., Public Schools, Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools and Shawnee Mission South High School’s Center for International Studies.
“The Department of State sends them to areas of the country they might not choose, to show them the diversity and breadth of our nation,” said Barbara Dolci, executive director of the local International Visitors Council, which coordinated the Saudis’ visit.
