To understand and then appreciate technology’s role in our learning and our lives, we need to understand the essence of what technology is and what it allows us to do. When we move beyond brand names and the latest technical features we can see that technology is meant to allow us to increase our production, communication, and give us the ability to interface and interact with the world around us. Why then is education still discussing, and at times even struggling to validate, how technology can transform teaching, learning, and meaningful experiences in both?

The MOFET Institute's Online Academy for Teachers has opened registration for the Fall, 2014 semester of online courses which will begin on October 26, 2014. The array of courses offered touches upon the fields of Integrating Technology into Education, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Teaching Jewish Studies, and Teaching Hebrew as a Foreign Language. Several courses will be conducted in Spanish.

In Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, a new synagogue stands. Above the synagogue, built by a donation of Eurasia Jewish Congress President Alexander Machkevich, dwells the family of Chabad emissary Rabbi Yehuda Kubalkin. There, in one of the world's most remote Jewish communities, he tries to connect the remnant of Kazakhstan's Jews with their tradition.

More than 75 educators from 15 countries are preparing to beat a modern path in early July to the teaching of ancient wisdom at the de Gunzburg Jewish Education Seminars. Coordinated by World ORT’s Education and Technology Department, the four-day seminars, which will be held concurrently in Buenos Aires, Rome and Kishinev, will provide Jewish Studies and Hebrew teachers with insights and skills to incorporate technology into their lessons.

The Summer 2009 Jewish Open Source Curriculum Project is a pilot project which aims to collaboratively develop a curriculum for Orthodox Jewish education. The goal of the project is to develop educational standards and then create open source curricular materials which target those standards. As a first step in this progress, teachers are invited to collaborate in developing a short fourth grade Dinim (Jewish Law) curriculum for the Yamim Noraim (High Holidays) with both print and interactive digital content.

Sviva Israel and the Jewish Agency's Partnership 2000 of New Jersey-Delaware/Arad-Tamar are finishing a successful first year that paired two Israeli schools with two US schools in their Eco-Connection program. The Eco-Connection project, which began in January, 2009, focused on measuring pupils' ecological footprints and teaching the three basic tenets of environmental behavior - reduce, reuse, recycle. Pupils surveyed their ecological footprints and worked on campaigns to get their schools to reduce water and energy use. They also learned about Jewish responses to environmentalism as well as environmentally clean technologies.
