Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks on The High Holidays

These deep messages accompany the newly published Koren Rosh Hashana Prayer Book (Machzor) with an introduction and commentaries by Chief Rabbi Sacks.

Dah Bear, an Online Hebrew Language Tool

Legacy Heritage Fund is proud to share its newest effort to integrate technology into Jewish education: Dah Bear, a Hebrew language tool which will encourage higher levels of Hebrew vocabulary mastery by students. This dynamic new educational online tool is free of charge and intended for use by teachers and students in school and also at home. Teachers may easily submit their classroom word lists to the website so that students can review the words, reinforce their understanding and then test their comprehension.

Say Shana Tova

The Israel Ministry of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs has launched an initiative for the Jewish New Year. The 'Say Shana Tova' website will allow Jews from around the world to design digital greeting cards with New Year's greetings and send them to Jews around the world. All those who send cards will receive greetings from other Jews around the world. The greetings can be sent in Hebrew, English, Russian, French, Spanish, German or Italian and will be delivered to the recipient via email, translated into his own language.

Free Primary Jewish Sources and Resources on the Internet

The last issue of the Lookstein Bookjed Digest carried a review of this online Google Docs listing of primary and secondary Jewish digital resources compiled and regularly revised by Dr. Melech Tanen. In addition to links to traditional Jewish resources in original language and English translation, there is a large listing of articles and resources on many contemporary Jewish topics as well as links to Jewish education resources.

The Practical Teshuva Workshop: A Model for Educating Toward Commitment

PJ Library’s Israeli Program Triples

eJewish Philanthropy reports that in just three years, PJ Library’s sister program in Israel, Sifriyat Pijama, has grown dramatically, providing Hebrew language children’s books to the country’s neediest preschoolers. Launched in 2009, the pre-literacy and Jewish heritage program began by serving 3,500 preschoolers in Israel. A year later, it grew to 45,000 children, and, this fall, the program will triple, serving 120,000 young children. Sifriyat Pijama will now reach more than 4,000 of the 10,000 public preschools in Israel, youngsters in 100 Jewish communities.

With All Our Hearts - A Wiki on Jewish Prayer

There are quite a few resources for teaching about Jewish prayer in a classroom, but it's not easy to find ideas for enhancing a school-based, synagogue or camp Jewish worship experience. The With All Our Hearts Wiki, maintained by Jewish educators, members of the Hebrew Project, has been designed to enable such sharing among educators, rabbis, lay leaders, song leaders, camp staff and others. The target population is children and teens, up to age 18.
