The Head of School Conundrum: A 21st Century Leadership Challenge
Authors: Botwinick Chaim Y.
At the end of the day, Heads of Schools will always be required to navigate crises, exigencies, problems and pressures of the 21st century Jewish day school. They will be judged not necessarily by the number of fires extinguished, speeches or pronouncements made or crises averted, but rather by the manner in which they were able to direct, channel and lead their schools to ensure high levels of educational standards of excellence and above all, measurable student achievement, progress and success.

Authors: Lipshits Hadar
Funding for ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) education has become a major political topic in Israel. This article examines the conventional notion that funding for Haredi pupils increases as Haredi political strength rises. A study was conducted examining the correlation between budget changes and the political strength of the Haredi parties at three levels: parliamentary representation, extent of coalition partnership, and a government headed by their political ally, the Likud. The correlation was checked against the Budget Law and against actual budget expenditures during 1996–2006.

Helpful Insights From a Working Funder Collaborative
Authors: Irie Ellen, Posner Reuben
Recently, a group of 15 different organizations released a case study – Finding New Paths for Teen Engagement and Learning: A Funder Collaborative Leads the Way – detailing the two-years they’ve spent working together, learning about and investing in Jewish teen education and engagement initiatives. There are a litany of insights and interesting lessons to pull from the study, which we believe are beneficial to organizations well beyond the Jewish teen education and engagement arena (and even beyond the Jewish education arena). In fact, funders in all philanthropic sectors are increasingly pooling or coordinating funding for greater impact, or to address particularly challenging social and environmental problems.
