The 2016 Echoes and Reflections Advanced Learning Seminar at Yad Vashem will bring together educators with a passion and commitment for delivering accurate and meaningful Holocaust education to today’s students. Designed for educators who have previously attended one or more Echoes and Reflections professional development programs and who actively use Echoes and Reflections in their teaching, this ten-day seminar will take place in Jerusalem, Israel from July 31-August 9, 2016.
The program will offer a comprehensive exploration of the history of the Holocaust, extend participants’ knowledge of Echoes and Reflections print and online materials, and provide an in-depth discussion of sound pedagogy and effective tools for teaching about the Holocaust. Seminar participants will meet Holocaust experts, survivors, and other witnesses. The seminar will also include tours of the Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum and other sites on the Yad Vashem campus, and visits to sites in Jerusalem.
Prior to the seminar, successful applicants will be required to complete a 3-lesson introductory online course. Upon completion of the seminar at Yad Vashem, participants will be asked to bring what they have learned back to their communities by creating a classroom-based project using Echoes and Reflections and arranging for an Echoes and Reflections professional development program for other educators in their school, school district, or region.
This opportunity includes full subsidies for tuition and hotel for all ten days of the seminar. Each participant will be reimbursed up to $1,200 for his/her round trip airfare to Jerusalem.
Applications must be submitted by April 10, 2016 for consideration. Successful applicants will be notified by April 17, 2016, and will have until May 18, 2016 to complete the online course.
