Ayeka: The Center for Soulful Education today announced that it has selected eight schools from a strong application pool of sixteen to participate in a new cohort beginning August 2018 funded by the Jim Joseph Foundation. The schools chosen are Adelson Educational Campus, Carmel Academy, Katz Yeshiva High School, Luria Academy of Brooklyn, Maimonides School, Pressman Academy, Robert M. Beren Academy, and Solomon Schechter of Long Island. Ayeka was one of ten recipients of the Jim Joseph Foundation’s Jewish Educator Professional Development Initiative.
Over the course of this multi-year program, selected Judaic Studies teachers will become proficient in implementing Ayeka’s paradigm-shifting Soulful Education pedagogy in their classrooms, and then will coach other Judaic Studies staff at their schools. The program will include retreats, on-site coaching sessions, individual mentoring and virtual conversations for selected staff as well as administration of the selected day schools.
This major grant from the Jim Joseph Foundation follows other grants recently received by Ayeka, including from the AVI CHAI, and Mayberg Foundations, to expand its Soulful Educational Programming in Jewish Day Schools in Jewish communities throughout North America.
According to Aryeh Ben David, Founder and Director of Ayeka, “The responses we received to our requests for applications were very reaffirming. There is a real hunger and thirst in the Day School world for our Soulful Education approach to bring Jewish wisdom from our students’ minds to their hearts to their souls and into their lives.”
