This summer, AVI CHAI is excited to provide two different types of opportunities for participation in the year-long program that is launched at the Principals' Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. We will once again sponsor individual day school leaders to attend one of two institutes – “Art of Leadership” (AOL) for administrators in their first 5 years of leadership, and “Leadership: An Evolving Vision” (LEV) for more veteran (5+ years) administrators. New candidates, as well as those who have previously attended AOL (with or without AVI CHAI sponsorship) in the summer of 2015 or prior, are welcome to apply. In addition, this year a separate, parallel group of school administrative teams (up to 3 members per school) will be sponsored for “Leadership: An Evolving Vision,” the institute for more veteran leaders.
What is the aim of the AVI CHAI program?
The AVI CHAI Foundation believes that effective Jewish day schools require committed and competent leaders who both work to improve their students’ learning and Jewish experiences and prioritize their own professional growth. We have therefore developed a year-long program, structured around the Harvard Summer Institutes, to help day school leaders achieve these goals.
What does the AVI CHAI program include?
- A 90-minute pre-institute AVI CHAI conference call, together with members of your cohort;
- Participation in all sessions of the Harvard Principals Center Summer Institute;
- Additional evening sessions during the Institute that ask you in very practical ways to apply the day’s learning to day schools generally and to your particular day school context;
- Follow-up during the 2018-19 academic year which will include a significant Jewish mission/vision project of your choice in the area of your domain in your school and must be approved by your supervisor.
Participation in all these components, as well as allowing the project to be observed and/or evaluated externally, is mandatory as part of AVI CHAI sponsorship.
Application Deadline: March 16, 2018
