Uri L'Tzedek is now accepting applications from college and graduate students for their 2011 Summer Fellowship Program in New York. This 6-week program is an opportunity to work alongside Uri L'Tzedek's staff and board, experiencing the many mechanisms that come together to create an effective non-profit organization, gaining exposure to communal Jewish life, effecting change, and learning Torah, social justice philosophy, and community organizing models.

The CJN writes of the Chicago launch event for the iChallenge Ideas Incubator, focusing on activating creativity. At the end, participants were invited to submit proposals for grants for dynamic ideas in Jewish education, five of which will ultimately be chosen for grants of $30,000. The event was sponsored by the iCenter, a Chicago based non-profit educational organization aimed at developing and enhancing the field of Israel education. More than 100 Jewish educators, gathered into small groups, chattered and buzzed in search of the next big idea in Jewish education - or maybe just something that would get the kids they teach excited about Israel.

The Israel Teachers' Union in cooperation with the Center for Educational Technology has launched the 'Dialog with OFEK' website. The site is meant to serve educators working with small groups in the OFEK CHADASH (New Horizon) elementary school reform program, which includes the addition of school hours for work with small groups. The website contains materials and activities to help the teachers enhance the student – teacher dialog and the affective discourse between them. The site contains experiential student activities, and professional articles, videos and tips for teachers.

The CEO of the Israel Ministry of Education recently announced the launching of a new collaborative workspace for Israel educators – The Carrier Pigeon System. As part of the National Telecommunications Program for Adapting the Israel Education System to the 21st Century, the Carrier Pigeon system is being made available to the entire k-12 education community. With the launching of the system, all communications between the Ministry of Education and members of the education community will be delivered to their personal secure Carrier Pigeon email accounts.

The Annual Teva Seminar on Jewish Environmental Education will take place at Surprise lake Camp in Cold Spring, NY from May 31 - June 3, 2011. Torah scholars, farmers, educators, students and scientists will engage in environmental sustainability, camping, gardening and other topics of Jewish Environmentalism. Participants will engage in a dialogue about the connection between God, earth, and humanity, gaining the skills to bring it to various educational settings.

The Pardes Summer Curriculum Workshop is aimed at new Judaic Studies teachers of grades 4-12, combining professional development with Judaic learning in Jerusalem. The cost of tuition, housing, and most meals is provided by grants and contributions. It is open to Judaic Studies teachers in North American day schools, who have been teaching for one to five years who will continue to do so in the coming school year.
