For the last three years, we at Jewish LearningWorks have taken a close look at families with young children in the Bay Area. What we’ve seen are a growing number of families looking for opportunities to connect to Judaism and Jewish community, but in non-traditional ways. Recognizing this change in the way families engage with and connect to community, we began asking ourselves, “how can we support these families in the creation of Jewish lives that work for them?” Initially our work focused on two new initiatives, Shalom Explorers – an alternative parent-led learning program for young children, and Kesher – a community concierge and outreach program.

Young Jewish adults with a vision to create cultural, spiritual, educational, service, and community-building projects for their peers can begin applying for a 2014 Natan/NEXT Grant for Social Entrepreneurs. Applications will be accepted through March 7th and recipients will be notified in June. Grants of up to $10,000 each will be awarded to projects that demonstrate long-term potential to engage young Jewish adults.

Come and share in a week of joyous learning, exploration, celebration, and creating community at the National Havurah Committee Summer Institute 2013 on August 5-11, 2013 at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire. The NHC’s flagship program, the week-long Summer Institute, is a unique opportunity for serious study, moving prayer, spirited conversation, late-night jam sessions, singing, dancing, swimming, meditation, and hiking – all in the company of more than 300 people from a wide range of backgrounds.

MOFET JTEC will again be conducting a special leadership seminar in Israel for leaders of Jewish school boards and education committees in the Spanish speaking world. The ten day program on April 29 - May 9, 2013, will include study visits, workshops and conferences which will broaden the knowledge and experience of those working in the field thus aiding them in fulfilling the daily functions of managers in their respective schools and communities.
