The world of part-time Jewish education is changing rapidly. New models are emerging, both within congregations and beyond. A growing number of communities are engaged in initiatives to foster broad-scale improvement. And, national actors are accelerating their efforts to seed innovation and support local change. What can we learn from and what will be the impact of all this activity? Will today's alternative models become tomorrow's norm? What will this mean for children and their families, for institutions and communities, innovators and funders? JESNA is holding a series of three convenings for professional and lay leaders involved with complementary education to discuss these important questions.

A new initiative to support Jewish Studies Teachers in London is being undertaken on January 30, 2013 between 20:00 – 21:20. This will follow the TeachMeet format and include time for discussion. This session will focus on 'Teaching Purim in Primary Schools'.

The Yiddish Book Center of Amherst, Mass. is launching a series of weeklong seminars — called Tent — focusing on Jewishness along with either comedy, creative writing or theater. The weeklong seminars will be offered to young adults throughout the country in the upcoming 2013 year. The first of the programs, which will take place in Los Angeles in March, will focus on Jewishness and comedy. The creative writing program will take place in Amherst in June, and the final seminar, which will focus on theater, will be held in New York City in August.

“Is Jewish Education Broken?” debates new visions for liberal Jewish schools in the 21st century. This free event takes place on Thursday, December 13 at 7pm and is hosted by the 14th Street Y. “Is Jewish Education Broken?” is presented by Speakers’ Lab, a new public programming initiative of the Posen Foundation, with Tablet Magazine and The New School for Public Engagement, Jewish Cultural Studies Program.
