More than a thousand Jewish students from all over the FSU are currently visiting places related to the history of Jewish communities in Europe. The trip, organized by YAHAD, Youth FJC’s programming platform, comes as a culmination of a year-long Jewish studies program EuroStars, which the students began in September. The group is visiting sites connected with the history of the Jews of Europe in the Middle Ages and Modernity. In total, more than 1,000 young people from 45 cities in 8 FSU countries – Georgia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia and Russia are taking part in the trip.

The JustCity Leadership Institute (June 25–July 9, 2017) is JTS’s award-winning pre-college program, training high school students in the fundamentals of Jewish change leadership in collaboration with AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps, Camp Ramah, United Synagogue Youth, and American Jewish Society for Service. JustCity brings rising juniors and seniors together to live on JTS’s New York City campus, take college-level courses, engage in social justice work, and build community through vibrant Jewish programming.

Shira’s religious crisis was only one in a series of events that led to the creation of the religious guidance program at Kohelet Yeshiva High School. After repeated conversations with disheartened students and discouraged faculty, it seemed as though more and more students were floundering as they mindlessly went through the motions of a religious lifestyle and yet failed to find meaning. Frustrated with Judaism and disillusioned with religion, these students were struggling with deep questions while longing to connect to someone and something beyond themselves.

Hebrew Through Movement has been energizing Hebrew learning across North American for the last 5 years. With its start in Cleveland, OH over a dozen years ago, HTM brings laughter and smiles to the learning of Hebrew. And, because of its kinesthetic nature, Hebrew is sticking deep in the kishkes of its learners. While also part of learning in early childhood and day school settings, HTM has gained huge traction in part-time Jewish educational programs. Based on the number of educational programs who enrolled teachers in the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland’s online seminar (over 900), it would be easy to suggest that 9,000 – 15,000 youngsters have been jumping, running and pointing their way to Hebrew learning.
