MOFET Online Academy Opens Registration for the Upcoming Fall, 2013 Semester

The MOFET Institute's Online Academy for Teachers has opened registration for the Fall, 2013 semester of online courses. The Online Academy runs two tracks of courses for professional development of teachers: The Online Academy for Teaching Jewish Studies and Hebrew and The Online Academy for Teaching Information and Communication Technologies in Education and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. The Fall semester begins on October 13, 2013. Students registering before September 1, 2013 will receive a 10% discount on their tuition.

The Choice of Reform Rabbinical Studies in Israel and the Rabbinical Mission: Negotiating Tikun Olam and Personal Tikun

The goals of this study are to describe the motivations and aims of young Israelis for choosing Reform rabbinical studies and to explore how the Israeli and Reform contexts are manifested in students’ motivations and aims. This question was examined by a study of the personal background, the decision-making process, and the motivations of 10 students in the Reform rabbinical program at the Jerusalem campus of Hebrew Union College (HUC).

eLearning Faculty Fellowship Launched by HUC-JIR, JTS and YU

The Impact of the National Religious Identity of Talmud Teachers in Yeshivah High Schools on their Professional Identity

This paper is based on findings of a study of the changes in Talmud instruction in high-school level yeshivot and ulpanot (religious schools for boys and girls, respectively) in Israel. The research question was: How do Talmud teachers perceive the changes that the subject has been undergoing in institutes that combine both Jewish studies with general and scientific studies.

Summary of Research Conducted for PEP and PEASP – 2010-2012 - Pardes Institute

An evaluation released recently by the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Israel shows the achievements of its teacher training and retention programs, and demonstrates the importance of an active support system for new Judaic Studies teachers. The study, conducted by Research Success Technologies, details findings from two separate research engagements. One, commissioned by the Jim Joseph Foundation, evaluated the Pardes Educators Alumni Support Program (PEASP), while the other, commissioned by The AVI CHAI Foundation, studied the field’s impression of graduates of the Pardes Educators Program (PEP).

Legacy Heritage YUTeach Fellowship Accepting Applications for 2013-14 Cohort

The Yeshiva University Institute for University-School Partnership's Legacy Heritage YUTeach Fellowship has been established to address the need for more dynamic and inspired educators by identifying Judaic Studies teachers who have the desire and capacity for professional development and provide them with the opportunity to leverage their own experience and collective learning with experts in the field. Judaic studies teachers who have been working in the field for a minimum of two years, and have been nominated by a school leader, may apply until March 15, 2013.

Hidden Sparks Unveils New Judaic Studies Curriculum for Diverse Learners

Hidden Sparks recently unveiled the first part of a new Judaic studies curriculum at its sixth annual retreat, attended by 40 educators from 30 day schools in New York, New Jersey and Baltimore. The group, which addresses the needs of diverse learners, works to help Jewish educators discover, understand and support all the students in their classrooms, including those with learning difficulties.
