SHI Launches the Be’eri School for Teacher Education

In October, 2010 the Shalom Hartman Institute, in partnership with Keren Karev, will launch the new Be’eri School for Teacher Education. The School will offer a basic and advanced track for teachers, as well as a track customized for school principals. The basic teachers training track provides junior and high school teachers with the tools required to become instructors in Jewish heritage—Tarbut Yisrael. The advanced track is targeted at accredited teachers in the field of Jewish heritage who wish to broaden their expertise in this field and potentially become Tarbut Yisrael coordinators in their schools.

MOFET's Online Academy Opens Registration for Fall Semester

The MOFET Institute's Online Academy has opened registration for the Fall semester of online courses whose main objective is to prepare teachers, educators and leaders in Jewish communities in the Diaspora for their mission. The courses, in areas that are suitable for educators and leaders in the Jewish world as well as students in universities and colleges in the fields of the didactics and pedagogy of teaching Jewish subjects in the Diaspora, are taught via the internet, a-synchronously with synchronous components. The course developers and lecturers are all experts in their fields and senior staff members of Israel's top institutes of higher education.

Jim Joseph Announces $33m. to Train Educators

Jim Joseph Funds New Stanford Doctoral Program

Committed to the creation of a new generation of scholars in Jewish education, the Jim Joseph Foundation has announced a $12 million grant, awarded to Stanford University’s School of Education (SUSE) to create a doctoral Concentration in Education and Jewish Studies. A key component of the new concentration is the establishment of an endowed Jim Joseph Professorship in Education and Jewish Studies. The gift is the largest in the history of Stanford’s School of Education.

Chotam – Teach for Israel

A new program for recruiting bright young college graduates to the teaching profession has been launched by the Israel Ministry of Education along with JDC Israel and Hakol Hinuch, the Movement for the Advancement of Education in Israel. Recent college graduates will be recruited to begin teaching in the 2010-2011 school year after an intensive summer course. They will continue their teacher training and mentoring while teaching an 80% work load, receiving their teaching certificates at the end of the first year of the program.

Arab Students at Teachers' College Top Jewish Counterparts

The admissions scores of first-year students at colleges training teachers for state-run Arab schools are higher than those preparing for state-run non-religious Jewish schools, a recently released Education Ministry report shows. But of the 25 teacher training colleges in the country, the one which scored the highest marks was Herzog College in Gush Etzion, which readies students to teach at state-run religious Jewish schools. On average, such colleges had higher admissions rates than those geared toward non-religious schools.

Full Tuition Scholarships Available for Education Students at HUC-JIR

BHI Jewish Education Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

The Post- Baccalaureate Certificate in Jewish Education is a 20-unit graduate program that provides students with the knowledge and tools to become effective Jewish educators. By integrating classical and contemporary Jewish studies with pedagogy, the certificate in Jewish Education program will prepare its students to embark on careers as educators in a formal or informal Jewish educational setting. The core components include three graduate Jewish studies courses, three education courses, and a final project.
