Online Resources for Responding to Crisis

Recruiting for G-dcast's Psalms Project

If you're a young Jewish artist - a singer, song-writer, musician, rapper, spoken word poet, writer, comedian, story teller or anyone else with an incredibly strong voice, this is aimed at you, regardless of your current knowledge of the Psalms. We're looking for you to submit a one and half to two minute audio entry of your interpretation of one of the Psalms. If you're picked, on top of a cash prize, you'll get to see your film animated!

The Jerusalem Project Virtual Tour

The starting point of the Jerusalem Project online virtual tour is on Har Hazaitim, the Mount of Olives, enabling the viewer a panoramic view of the Old City of Jerusalem. One can take a tour of the various Jewish sites in the Old City and its vicinity, beginning with the Hebrew University on Har Hatzofim – Mount Scopus, in the east, through the Yemin Moshe neighborhood in the west. The tour offers a 360 degree view of the various sites, giving you the feeling that you are actually on-site.

Israeli Entrepreneurs Use Facebook to Teach Kids History

Longtime friends and education enthusiasts Michael Shurp and Roi (Ziko) Tzikorel’s new project, “Making History: Israel on the Timeline,” is attempting to use Facebook as a tool to learn history resource material on a platform friendly and attractive to youth. 'Making History” is a series of Facebook pages in Hebrew that use the “timeline” format of Facebook to create online study guides that are free for all Israeli high school students, and focus on the subjects needed to pass the standardized matriculation exam in history.

Google and Israel Antiquities Authority Launch Online Dead Sea Scrolls Digital Library

Thousands of fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls went online this week with the launch of a new website by Google and the Israel Antiquities Authority, part of a move to make the famed manuscripts easily available to scholars and the general public. The Leon Levy Dead Sea Scrolls Digital Library, stored on Google servers, will eventually hold all of the tens of thousands of fragments of the scrolls in very high resolution. For now, some 4,000 scans of infrared photographs taken right after their discovery in the 1950s have been uploaded, as well as 1,000 new scans done in a lab specially constructed for this task by the Antiquities Authority.

The Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life of Rutgers University has been providing free online Jewish studies courses taught by Rutgers professors since 2006. The courses have been taken by students across the globe, in 47 countries on six continents and in 41 states across America. The non-credit online courses allow participants to learn at their own pace.
