The I.D.E.A. Schools Network is excited to announce the third annual East Coast Summer Sandbox to be held on August 3-5, 2015 at Yeshivat Noam, Paramus, NJ. The Sandbox will kick off on the evening of August 3 with a barbeque and will lead into two days, of beginner and intermediate/advanced workshops in Project-Based Learning (PBL).

Mechon Hadar’s Young Leaders Fellowship

Mechon Hadar is opening its doors to high school students! In this five-week program (June 28 - August 2, 2015), a select group of high school students (graduating High School in 2015 or 2016), will join the larger Yeshivat Hadar beit midrash in creating passionate and meaningful Jewish community during our summer session. Over the course of five weeks, students will learn, sing, daven, and spend Shabbat together. They will form close relationships based on openness and give-and-take with Jewish texts, their teachers, and each other.

Jewish Day School Educators, Tech Professionals and HS Students to Prototype New Ways to Use Technology

The Atid Day School Innovation Challenge, a joint initiative of PresenTense Group and The Jewish Education Project with the support of UJA-Federation of New York, is hosting a Hackathon to highlight and encourage innovation in Jewish day schools. The Hackathon, which will be held at Impact Hub on Monday, May 18th, 2015 will convene day school educators, technology experts and high school students for a day of prototyping and testing innovative solutions to educational challenges using the principles of Design Thinking.

The New York Teen Initiative - Eight One-of-a-Kind Experiences for Jewish Teens

Eight one-of-a-kind experiences for Jewish teens are launching this summer. Getting college ready, developing a new passion, engaging in social action in the US or around the world, or simply having some fun... these programs have never been available before, and there's something new for just about every teenager. Through a joint investment by UJA-Federation of NY and the Jim Joseph Foundation, The New York Teen Initiative is seeking to increase the number of teens participating in accessible, affordable, and inspiring Jewish summer experiences. The Jewish Education Project is the lead operator of this initiative. Scholarships For summer 2015 are available until April.

New Festival Celebrates Hebrew Language and Culture

A show at Steven Wise Free Synagogue in Manhattan on March 15,2015, “Music Talks: Peter and the Wolf,” marked the opening of a remarkable two-week Hebrew festival called “Hagigah Ivrit” taking place in Manhattan until March 30. The festival, which hopes to raise the profile of the Hebrew language in North America through a variety of artistic and academic events, is sponsored by the Council for Hebrew Language and Culture in North America, the World Zionist Organization, The Steinhardt Foundation for Jewish Life, and the Israeli-American Council.

This installment focuses on Limmuds in Jewish communities with ancient roots in central Europe which had been under Nazi occupation followed by Communist domination and are today seeing a renaissance – Bulgaria, the Czech and Slovak Republics and Poland.
